Professional Experience:
After completing my MBBS in 1994, I joined the Indian Army’s Armed Forces Medical Services (AMC) in March 1995, embarking on a distinguished military medical career spanning three decades marked by service, leadership, and commitment to excellence. My first posting was at the Military Hospital, Namkum, where I gained valuable experience in military healthcare and hospital administration. Soon after completing the Medical Officers Basic Course, I was deployed to the high-altitude terrain of Jammu & Kashmir for a 28-month tenure as a Regimental Medical Officer during the peak of militancy. Serving in these forward areas tested my endurance and honed my skills in delivering critical medical care under extreme climatic and operational conditions.
Subsequently, I was posted to the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, followed by recruitment assignments in the Army. My professional competence and dedication earned me selection for international deputation to Bhutan, representing India in a key medical role that broadened my cross-cultural and administrative experience. On return, I served as the Adjutant of a Field Hospital, where I developed deeper insights into personnel management and operational coordination.
After promotion, I was posted as an Instructor at the AMC Centre & College, Lucknow, imparting training to young medical officers — a role that allowed me to shape the next generation of military doctors. This was followed by a tenure at Army Headquarters (AHQ) as the Officer-in-Charge, Examinations, overseeing the AFMC entrance, postgraduate, and study leave examinations. This high-responsibility appointment involved managing the academic framework and evaluation processes across the Army Medical Corps, demanding precision, fairness, and organizational acumen. During this period I was awarded the Vice Chief of Staff commendation card twice for the dedication and meritorious work that I carried out including conversion of manual exams into online mode.
Promoted to the rank of Colonel, I took command of a Field Hospital in Leh at an altitude of 13,500 feet, leading over 250 personnel in an extremely challenging environment. The tenure demonstrated my ability to lead effectively amidst logistical, climatic, and operational adversities. Thereafter, I was appointed Colonel (Medical) of 15 Corps, a prestigious operational assignment.
In recognition of my leadership and professional competence, I was selected to represent India at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) as Commanding Officer of the Level II Plus Field Hospital, heading a national team of 90 AMC personnel. This 18-month tenure provided invaluable exposure to global medical logistics, emergency response, and interagency coordination. Under my command, the hospital earned the Force Commander’s Commendation Card, and I was personally commended by the Indian Ambassador for exemplary service in a conflict zone. i was selected to do a logistic course at Brindisi Italy where I was introduced to a multinational environment with excellent learning opportunities.
Upon return, I commanded another Field Hospital in India during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading my team through a period of intense operational and humanitarian challenge. Our collective efforts earned wide appreciation for effective crisis management and patient care.
Presently, I am posted as Senior Registrar and Officer Commanding Troops at the 580-bedded Military Hospital, Dehradun, overseeing around 450 personnel and coordinating all operational, administrative, and welfare activities. I continue to serve with the same zeal and sense of duty that have defined my journey since 1995.
After an illustrious and fulfilling career of 30 years, I am scheduled to superannuate on 31 December 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and professional excellence.
