Professional Experience:

After completing my MBBS in 1994, I joined the Indian Army’s Armed Forces Medical Services (AMC) in March 1995, embarking on a distinguished military medical career spanning three decades marked by service, leadership, and commitment to excellence. My first posting was at the Military Hospital, Namkum, where I gained valuable experience in military healthcare and hospital administration. Soon after completing the Medical Officers Basic Course, I was deployed to the high-altitude terrain of Jammu & Kashmir for a 28-month tenure as a Regimental Medical Officer during the peak of militancy. Serving in these forward areas tested my endurance and honed my skills in delivering critical medical care under extreme climatic and operational conditions.

Subsequently, I was posted to the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, followed by recruitment assignments in the Army. My professional competence and dedication earned me selection for international deputation to Bhutan, representing India in a key medical role that broadened my cross-cultural and administrative experience. On return, I served as the Adjutant of a Field Hospital, where I developed deeper insights into personnel management and operational coordination.

After promotion, I was posted as an Instructor at the AMC Centre & College, Lucknow, imparting training to young medical officers — a role that allowed me to shape the next generation of military doctors. This was followed by a tenure at Army Headquarters (AHQ) as the Officer-in-Charge, Examinations, overseeing the AFMC entrance, postgraduate, and study leave examinations. This high-responsibility appointment involved managing the academic framework and evaluation processes across the Army Medical Corps, demanding precision, fairness, and organizational acumen. During this period I was awarded the Vice Chief of Staff commendation card twice for the dedication and meritorious work that I carried out including conversion of manual exams into online mode.

Promoted to the rank of Colonel, I took command of a Field Hospital in Leh at an altitude of 13,500 feet, leading over 250 personnel in an extremely challenging environment. The tenure demonstrated my ability to lead effectively amidst logistical, climatic, and operational adversities. Thereafter, I was appointed Colonel (Medical) of 15 Corps, a prestigious operational assignment.

In recognition of my leadership and professional competence, I was selected to represent India at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) as Commanding Officer of the Level II Plus Field Hospital, heading a national team of 90 AMC personnel. This 18-month tenure provided invaluable exposure to global medical logistics, emergency response, and interagency coordination. Under my command, the hospital earned the Force Commander’s Commendation Card, and I was personally commended by the Indian Ambassador for exemplary service in a conflict zone. i was selected to do a logistic course at Brindisi Italy where I was introduced to a multinational environment with excellent learning opportunities.

Upon return, I commanded another Field Hospital in India during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading my team through a period of intense operational and humanitarian challenge. Our collective efforts earned wide appreciation for effective crisis management and patient care.

Presently, I am posted as Senior Registrar and Officer Commanding Troops at the 580-bedded Military Hospital, Dehradun, overseeing around 450 personnel and coordinating all operational, administrative, and welfare activities. I continue to serve with the same zeal and sense of duty that have defined my journey since 1995.

After an illustrious and fulfilling career of 30 years, I am scheduled to superannuate on 31 December 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and professional excellence.

Education:

My educational journey has been a continuous pursuit of excellence, marked by dedication, discipline, and a deep commitment to learning — qualities that have shaped both my professional and personal ethos.

I began my schooling at Ispat English Medium School, Rourkela, from where I passed the ICSE examination in 1984 with an aggregate of about 70%. My formative years at this institution laid the foundation for my values of integrity, perseverance, and curiosity. I completed my Higher Secondary (+2) education from Rourkela Municipal College in 1986, where I developed a strong interest in the sciences and resolved to pursue a career in medicine.

In 1988, I was selected for admission to SCB Medical College, Cuttack — one of the most prestigious and premier medical institutions in Odisha. This was a milestone that set the course for my lifelong association with the medical profession. I completed my MBBS under Utkal University in the first attempt, demonstrating both academic commitment and clinical competence. Following this, I underwent my rotating internship at Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela, where I gained hands-on experience in patient care, clinical decision-making, and hospital operations. I obtained my registration from the Odisha Medical Council in 1994, officially marking the beginning of my professional journey as a medical practitioner.

My entry into the Indian Army’s Armed Forces Medical Services (AMC) soon after brought new dimensions to my learning. The Army not only refined my medical skills but also instilled in me leadership, resilience, and the ability to perform under challenging conditions. Over the years, I have successfully completed several professional military medical courses including the Medical Officers Basic Course (MOBC), Medical Officers Junior Command Course (MOJC), and Medical Officers Senior Command Course (MOSC). Each of these courses strengthened my leadership abilities and broadened my understanding of healthcare delivery in varied and often demanding operational environments.

In addition to these, I have completed specialized courses such as the JSSO NBC, ADC Systems, and Advanced Systems Courses, where I excelled consistently. These programs enhanced my proficiency in managing medical services in complex and high-risk scenarios, including those involving nuclear, biological, and chemical contingencies.

Furthering my commitment to global healthcare standards and leadership, I undertook the Advanced Health Leadership Course through the United Nations, conducted by the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Vancouver, Canada. This program enriched my perspective on international health systems, policy development, and leadership in multicultural and multidisciplinary healthcare environments.

To complement my clinical and administrative expertise, I pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare and Hospital Management from Dr. D.Y. Patil University, Pune. I completed the program with flying colours, gaining in-depth knowledge of hospital administration, healthcare quality systems, financial management, and strategic leadership — essential skills that have since guided my approach to hospital and organizational management.

In essence, my educational journey reflects a seamless blend of academic excellence, professional rigor, and continuous learning. From the classroom to command, each milestone has strengthened my ability to lead, heal, and innovate in the service of humanity and the medical profession.
