Professional Experience:

I am a Public Health Physician with over 20 years of experience spanning tuberculosis control, infectious disease management, public health program leadership, operational research, and clinical care across NGO, government-linked, hospital, and remote-care settings.
Since December 2013, I have been serving as Chief Medical Officer and Project Manager at Damien Foundation India Trust – Margaret Leprosy & TB Hospital, where I lead the Delhi TB Project. In this role, I am responsible for the technical and operational implementation of tuberculosis programs aligned with national guidelines under NTEP/RNTCP. I oversee the functioning, supervision, and quality assurance of 10 TB diagnostic and treatment centers, including Designated Microscopy Centres. My clinical responsibilities include diagnosis and management of drug-susceptible TB as well as complex MDR and XDR-TB cases.
A key part of my role involves coordination with district and state TB authorities to ensure program compliance, reporting accuracy, and performance improvement. I actively contribute to operational research, clinical trials, and program evaluations, with a focus on improving treatment outcomes and strengthening TB surveillance systems. I also conduct a high-volume charitable outpatient clinic, typically seeing 50–70 patients per day, ensuring access to quality TB and general medical care for underserved populations. In addition, I lead community-based IEC initiatives and conduct regular training and capacity-building programs for healthcare workers.
My work has received formal recognition, including appreciation from the District TB Officer and acknowledgment from The Union for contributions to TB programs. I have been nominated for the Kochon Prize and have presented research on XDR-TB and sputum conversion at national and international forums.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked part-time as a remote COVID-19 clinician with Edgecase AI (USA), providing teleclinical support and contributing to technology-enabled patient care models. I was also recognized for voluntary teleconsultation services provided to COVID-19 patients during this period.

Earlier in my career, I worked as a Medical Officer and Resident Doctor across multiple tertiary and secondary care hospitals in Delhi, including Dr. B.L. Kapur Memorial Hospital (Neurology), Six Sigma Medical Centre, Bhagat Hospital, and Mata Chanan Devi Hospital. These roles provided extensive exposure to emergency care, neurology, internal medicine, and acute patient management. I also completed my internship at Maulana Azad Medical College, which laid the foundation for my clinical and public health career.
Overall, my professional experience reflects a balanced integration of clinical expertise, public health leadership, research orientation, and system-level program management, with a sustained focus on tuberculosis elimination and health systems strengthening.

Education:

I hold an MBBS degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi (1997–2002), where I received comprehensive training in medical sciences and clinical practice. The program provided strong exposure to internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and community medicine, along with hands-on experience in high-volume public hospitals. My internship strengthened my clinical judgment, patient management skills, and understanding of community-oriented healthcare, forming a solid foundation for my work in infectious diseases and public health.

To complement my clinical background with health systems and leadership expertise, I pursued an MBA in Hospital Care Administration from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (2012–2014). This program equipped me with practical knowledge of hospital operations, healthcare finance, human resource management, quality assurance, and health policy. The training enabled me to integrate clinical care with strategic planning and governance, preparing me to manage large-scale health programs, oversee multidisciplinary teams, and ensure alignment with national health priorities and regulatory frameworks.

With a growing focus on tuberculosis control, particularly drug-resistant TB, I undertook a short-term specialized course in Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Belgium, in 2021. This international training enhanced my understanding of MDR and XDR-TB diagnostics, treatment protocols, pharmacovigilance, and programmatic management in high-burden settings. The exposure to global best practices strengthened my ability to translate evidence-based approaches into effective implementation within India’s national TB elimination framework.

Recognizing the importance of managing comorbidities in TB and public health practice, I also completed a Certification Course in Diabetes in 2017, conducted by BMJ, Royal College of Physicians London, and Fortis C-Doc. This certification strengthened my competence in evidence-based diabetes care, chronic disease monitoring, and integrated management of patients with complex medical needs.

Overall, my education reflects a deliberate progression from clinical medicine to healthcare administration and advanced infectious disease specialization. This multidisciplinary academic foundation supports my work in public health program leadership, tuberculosis control, operational research, clinical governance, and health systems strengthening, enabling me to deliver impact at both patient and population levels.

Affiliations and Achievements:

I have been actively engaged with national and international public health and tuberculosis platforms, contributing to program strengthening, research dissemination, and capacity building. My work in TB care and control has been formally recognized for its clinical quality, programmatic impact, and alignment with national and global TB elimination goals.

I have received an Appreciation Certificate from the District TB Officer for excellence in tuberculosis care and program implementation. My contributions have also been recognized by The Union for impactful engagement in TB programs, and I have been nominated for the Kochon Prize, acknowledging leadership and innovation in TB control.

I have presented findings on XDR-TB management and sputum conversion outcomes at leading national and international forums, including World Lung Conference (Cape Town, 2015; Hyderabad, 2018) and NATCON 2015. These presentations focused on operational research and real-world programmatic data, contributing to evidence-based improvements in TB treatment and surveillance practices.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I provided voluntary telemedicine support to patients during periods of restricted healthcare access and was recognized for these services. I also worked as a remote COVID-19 clinician with a US-based digital health initiative, gaining experience in technology-enabled care delivery and virtual clinical workflows.

My volunteer experience includes providing medical relief during the Jammu & Kashmir earthquake with Catholic Relief Services, where I supported emergency medical services in a disaster-response setting.

In addition, I am actively involved in training and capacity building for healthcare workers engaged in TB and public health programs. I have completed formal trainings in RNTCP induction, PMDT, and Operational Research, enabling me to mentor teams, strengthen health systems, and promote evidence-driven clinical and programmatic practice.

Overall, these affiliations and achievements reflect sustained commitment to public health leadership, research translation, humanitarian service, and continuous professional development in tuberculosis and infectious disease control.
